Save a Word document as a template - Microsoft Support
In Microsoft Word, you can create a template by saving a document as a .dotx file, .dot file, or a .dotm fie (a .dotm file type allows you to enable macros in the file). Click File > Open. Double-click This PC. (In Word 2013, double-click Computer ). Browse to the Custom Office Templates folder that’s under My Documents.

Use my custom templates in Word for the web - Microsoft Support
Word for the web. If you created a custom template in Word, you can use it in Word for the web after you save it as a document (.docx file) in OneDrive. The easiest way to do that is to start in Word on your desktop by creating a document based on your template. Go to File > New, and then click Personal (Word 2013) or My Templates (Word 2010).
